I am writing on behalf of an 80-year-old gentleman who has been a client of a Meals on Wheels program for over two years. Recently, he was evicted from his apartment and is currently living in a motel while waiting for senior housing to become available. Living alone and unable to drive, his main social contact comes from the caring volunteers who deliver his meals.
He’s doing his best to make his temporary space feel cozy, but it’s difficult without his own furniture or resources. Simple comforts like a new comforter or blanket, a warm robe, and slippers would mean a great deal to him. His favorite color is blue, and he enjoys starting his mornings playing solitaire while sipping instant coffee.
A deck of cards, some instant soups, coffee, and hot chocolate would also brighten his days—especially since his only way to heat water is a microwave. These small comforts could help him offer hospitality to any visitors he might have during the holidays.
He sleeps on a queen-size bed and wears XL clothing and size 9–13 slippers. Having new belongings would help him feel more settled and uplifted in his environment after having to leave his home.
Thank you for your kindness and generosity in helping bring warmth and comfort to someone facing difficult times.
